Overview

Recognizing the power of stories to inform and inspire, Working Films builds partnerships between documentary filmmakers, organizers, and advocates to advance social justice and environmental protection. We train and partner with grassroots groups to use documentaries to enhance their programs, extend their reach, and move their missions forward. We have remained on the forefront of public engagement with media for two decades by responding to the needs of the grassroots groups, organizations, and filmmakers we serve.

With generous support from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, in 2018 and 2019 we announced a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Docs in Action Fund. The Docs in Action program funds (up to $30,000) the production of short documentaries to expand the canon of films available for grassroots groups and NGOs to enhance their programs, extend their reach, and move their missions forward. Each year’s RFP is focused on a different issue area. Read more about the 2018 awardees here.

The 2020 application will be available online in Summer 2020. Please check back then for updated information or sign up for our email list below to be notified.
