Supporting a Clean and Just Energy Future

Catching the Sun follows the stories of workers and entrepreneurs in the U.S. and China as they lead the race to a clean energy future. Their successes and failures speak to one of the biggest questions of our time: Will the U.S. actually be able to build a clean energy economy that works for everyone?

Working Films is directing the Catching the Sun impact campaign at a critical moment in the push for a global transition to renewable sources. Clean energy solutions like solar are becoming more affordable than ever, and it has utility companies fighting for lost profits. In 2016, we managed the impact campaign for the theatrical release and a 25 city community screening tour, all of which led up to the film’s launch on Netflix on Earth Day 2016. We engaged responsible solar companies, grassroots environmental groups, and the leading national environmental organizations to use the film to advance solar policies and other renewable energy solutions in their municipalities.

"Shines a light on a clean energy future."

Leonardo DiCaprio

"A must-see film. An eye-opening look at workers and entrepreneurs on the forefront of the clean energy movement that will transform and enliven the way you see the future. What is clear is the wonderful opportunity the transition to clean energy represents."

Mark Ruffalo

“We need more visual content and stories. Energy is something that impacts everyone, but it's not well understood. As a renewable energy community, Catching the Sun represents a huge opportunity to inform the public and make change.”
